Cost

£100 (free for Mid Yorkshire Nurses, ANPs & HCAs)

Aimed at

Nurses, ANPs, HCAs who perform peripheral IV access on a regular basis

Content and Format

Each session will comprise of:

  • Didactic teaching for 70 minutes
  • Scan practice for 175 minutes

The didactic teaching will cover:

  • Ultrasound physics
  • Ultrasound knobology
  • Optimisation of ultrasound images
  • Ultrasound guided Peripheral Vascular Access
  • Ultrasound governance

The scan practice session will comprise of:

  • Faculty : delegate ratio 1:3
  • US machine : delegate ratio 1:3
  • Hands on practice on ultrasound compatible phantoms(training blocks/ultrasound compatible upper limbs)

Objectives

At the end of the session, the delegate will have a thorough understanding on:

  • Ultrasound physics
  • Ultrasound knobology
  • How to stabilise an ultrasound transducer
  • How to optimise an ultrasound image
  • How to obtain an ultrasound guided peripheral intravenous access
  • Ultrasound governance

Long term

Progressive independence:

Delegates will acquire a solid foundation on basic and procedural ultrasound which will help them to acquire more complex diagnostic and procedural ultrasound skills in the future in their chosen field of medicine.E.g. Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics.
