Lead Simulation Facilitator

Adam Smith

Hello, my name is Adam and I’m the Lead Simulation Facilitator working at the Medical Education & Simulation Hub. I started working in the Trust in 2004 initially as an assistant in the Health Sciences Library requesting and obtaining medical information for our staff, moving up to a technical role within this area.

In 2012 I moved to Medical Education to coordinate and facilitate local and regional courses and events. This time saw the opening of our Simulation Suites and Skills Lab in the new Education Centre which allowed my role to expand into simulation training. Whilst my role involves coordinating training, I also work in a technical capacity operating the simulators and associated equipment as well as acting as a patient in a variety of scenarios. The simulation that I’m involved with includes the teaching of junior doctors, dental staff, burns and respiratory physiotherapists as well as more senior clinicians from across the hospital and region.

I also provide inductions on our wide range of virtual reality surgical simulators that are used by clinical staff across the Trust in different specialities. Where time allows, video editing is also a feature of my role that I enjoy.
