The Postgraduate section of the Medical Education Directorate seeks to ensure access to high-quality training and to provide pastoral care for the full range of qualified doctors throughout Foundation, Core and Higher Specialist Training.
We provide a bespoke Induction for all trainees including a Wellbeing assessment which allows early access to any required intervention. Training and wellbeing are assessed throughout the year by a core team within medical education, and we have strong relationships with the wider educational network throughout the Trust as well as beyond within the Specialty Schools and HEE.

Why choose Mid Yorkshire
The Foundation Programme is part of the continuum of medical education. It is the only point in medical training that is common to all United Kingdom medical students and doctors and ensures that newly qualified doctors develop their clinical and professional skills in the workplace in readiness for core, speciality or general practice training. The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is well situated offering access to some of the best scenery, attractions and local nightlife in the UK through our vast motorway, rail and airport links.
Feedback from Foundation trainees is always positive and encouraging with excellent training opportunities across their 2-year Foundation Programme and enhanced subspecialty generic teaching in Medicine, Surgery and Community posts.
Foundation Trainees can obtain a vast array of help and support from Educational and Clinical Supervisors on the ward. With experienced and approachable Foundation Training Programme Directors and friendly Foundation Co-ordinators, trainees can rest assured knowing there is always someone to turn to.
In the absence of a careers advisor at the Deanery, the local foundation programme directors will help with careers advice.
Why choose Mid Yorkshire

Hospital posts
The hospital posts are largely undertaken in the hospitals of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and South West Yorkshire Mental Health NHS Trust for Psychiatry. We also have a Hospice post based at Pontefract.
All our posts are on a 3-year scheme and have 24 months of general practice and 12 months of hospital training on a 6 monthly rotation commencing in August and February each year. The hospital posts available are in General and Elderly Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Palliative Care.
We have 6 experienced local GPs as Training Programme Directors facilitating our teaching days and 2 Administration staff who are based at Pinderfields Hospital.
