Anaesthetics

Our range of virtual reality simulators offers the best training experience for those wishing to practice or improve their skills in certain specialities. For those working in Anaesthetics or Respiratory, we have these simulators.

1 BronchMentor - Broncoscopy simulator featuring basic scenarios to advanced procedures.
2 ORSIM - a smaller portable Bronchoscopy simulator with high definition graphics and a range of anatomy and pathology scenarios.

Obstetric & Gynaecology

Our range of virtual reality simulators offers the best training experience for those wishing to practice or improve their skills in certain specialities. For those working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we have these simulators.

1 HystSIM - scoping simulator focusing on Hysteroscopy.
2 LAP Mentor - an all round laparoscopy simulator that includes basic tasks and advanced gynaecological procedures.
3 Medaphor ScanTrainer - an advanced ultrasound simulator with virtual tutor for transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.

Urology

Our range of virtual reality simulators offer the best training experience for those wishing to practice or improve their skills in certain specialties. For those working in Urology we have these simulators.

1 Green Light Laser - a simulator on loan to us allowing users to practice TURP through vapourisation.
2 LAP Mentor - an all round laparoscopy simulator that includes basic tasks and advanced urological procedures.
3 URO Mentor - multi-scope simulator allowing users to practice rigid and flexible cystocopy and ureteroscopy.
4 TURP Mentor - scoping simulator allowing the practice of trans-resection of the prostate.

Other

Some of our simulators don’t necessarily fit into one of these categories, these are listed below.

1 ArthroMentor - minimally invasive Orthopaedic scoping simulator focusing on the knee and shoulder.
2 CAE Vimedix - advanced ultrasound simulator for Cardiology and Respiratory specialties.
3 GI Mentor - similar to our Bronch Mentor but features anatomy relating to Endoscopy and Gastroenterology procedures.

Simulation Suite 1

This suite houses our SimMan3G high fidelity patient manikin along with kit and equipment condusive to a simulated ward environment. Fixed and mobile cameras feature, allowing remote viewing. There is also an anaesthetic machine and cylinder storage to enable this room to be converted into a simulated theatre environment.

Simulation Suite 2

This is the adjoining feedback room in which users can, if required, watch what’s going on in Simulation Suite 1 through the SMOTS video system. Users are able to use the video software to rewind and replay footage to highlight any specific learning points that have been identified during a scenario. Our simulation scenarios are programmed to suit the needs of the course or setting and cater for a wide range of multi-disciplinary specialties. Every course and event is supported by experienced admin and technical staff, ensuring any learning that takes place, does so seamlessly and is of a high quality.

Post Graduate Skills Lab

Frequently used on our medical and surgical skills courses, this room allows trainees to practice simple and complex procedures in a wet lab setting. Coupled with a flat screen TV and conferencing facilities the skills lab offers a great teaching environment.

State-of-the-art simulation facilities

We currently have 10 Clinical Fellows with us at MESH. Their knowledge and skills as doctors provide high-quality education and teaching to medical students on placement with us from Leeds Medical School. Whilst our Clinical Fellows primarily teach Undergraduates, they have also been involved in designing and delivering essential training for Foundation doctors, known as STR1DE.

At MESH we have a wide range of simulation equipment available that assists students, doctors and other health professionals in developing and improving their skills and knowledge. Whether users visit on a one-to-one basis or are involved in group simulation teaching, our Education Centres offer a clean, safe and confidential environment.

Trainees with curriculum needs within the Yorkshire and Humber region can contact us to pre-book the use of our surgical and ultrasound simulators. Our Simulation Facilitator is on hand to assist with bookings as well as offering inductions, support and advice.
